VIM (Vasulka Interactive Multimedia)

2014-2019

The VIM cabinet (Vasulka interactif multimédia) is an interactive archive console incorporating the principles already set out in the VIM. Thus, it is a piece of furniture whose vocation is to allow all audiences to discover video works and the documents associated with them (texts, photographs, sketches, diagrams, contracts, etc.). In the end, he must be able to present all the documents archived at the Cinémathèque québécoise and beyond, all those relating to the Vasulka.

The notable difference between the two archive consoles is in the interface and therefore in the organization of the data. In the case of MIM, it is a cylinder which carries the hundred or so indexed images. In the VIM, it is a tower made up of as many cylinders as there are works, each ring supporting all of the documents described in the database. VIM is divided into three parts:

1 — The upper, vertical part is the space for consulting and choosing documents.

2 — The middle part is the space devoted to sound.

3 — The lower, horizontal part is the didactic space where three touch screens provide information on the chosen image.
